Arc browser shuts down on December 22 as users are moved to Dia
Existing Arc users must move to Dia or another browser before accounts are deactivated and the desktop app stops working.
The Browser Company will discontinue its Arc browser on December 22, according to a notice on the Arc website, after having stopped building new features for it last year. The shutdown is staged: new Arc accounts can no longer be created, Browse for Me and other AI features on iOS and Android are switched off on November 23, and on December 22 the desktop app stops working on macOS and Windows, accounts are deactivated, and Arc Search leaves Google Play. Users are being steered toward Dia, the company's AI-focused browser, which now receives its main engineering and security attention and comes with an FAQ on importing Arc data.
Why it matters
Arc users on macOS and Windows lose access to the browser on December 22, and new Arc accounts can no longer be created. The shutdown follows the company's decision to stop building new Arc features last year and to focus its work on Dia, including its whole security team. For people who relied on Arc, the practical change is that they need to find a replacement, and the company is directing them to Dia and offering an FAQ on importing Arc data.
