ChatGPT can now read and send iCloud Mail and manage iCloud Calendar events

The plugins give the chatbot access to Apple accounts only, and each user has to create an app-specific password first.

OpenAI has added iCloud Mail and iCloud Calendar plugins to ChatGPT, letting the chatbot work with a user's Apple calendar events and email. Through the calendar plugin, ChatGPT can view, create and edit events visible on an iPhone or in any third-party app that syncs iCloud Calendar. The mail plugin covers searching and reading messages, handling drafts, sending email and looking up iCloud contacts, but only for addresses ending in @icloud.com, @me.com or @mac.com; Gmail or Outlook accounts added to the iOS Mail app are not reachable. Users must generate an app-specific password for each service before connecting. The plugins are offered on every ChatGPT plan across web, desktop and iOS, and the same iCloud access can feed Dots, the proactive agent OpenAI launched last month.

Why it matters

Anyone who keeps personal or work email and scheduling in iCloud can now let ChatGPT search messages, draft and send email, and create or edit calendar events from the web, desktop or iPhone app. Users with Gmail or Outlook accounts in the iOS Mail app get no access through this route, so the change mainly affects people who rely on Apple's own services. The same iCloud connection can also feed Dots, the proactive agent OpenAI launched last month, which means the access could extend beyond answering questions to acting on a user's schedule and messages.
