Cloudflare opens beta for cf CLI and plans to phase out Wrangler

The new tool is meant to take over from Wrangler and will give teams a longer runway before the old CLI is retired.

Cloudflare has put its new open-source `cf` command-line tool into open beta as an agent-oriented replacement for Wrangler, and says it will eventually deprecate Wrangler after the beta wraps. The new CLI is built in TypeScript, emits JSON by default, and adds command discovery plus a `cloudflare.config.ts` format meant to be easier for both developers and AI agents to work with. Cloudflare says `cf` is generated from its OpenAPI schemas through Forge and can cover more than 3,000 API operations, far beyond Wrangler’s roughly 280 built-in commands. The company also plans a final major Wrangler release that points users to `cf`, followed by 18 months of maintenance so teams have time to migrate.

Why it matters

For developers and teams using Cloudflare’s command line tools, the change points to a broader interface with a longer migration period. Cloudflare says cf covers far more API operations than Wrangler and will be supported alongside a final major Wrangler release and 18 months of maintenance, so users can move over without an immediate cutover.
