Google adds chat agents and one-tap journeys to Demand Gen ads
New YouTube, Gmail and Maps features aim to shorten the path from ad impression to local or online conversion.
Google is rolling out new Demand Gen capabilities aimed at making YouTube and Google’s visual surfaces more directly shoppable ahead of the holiday season. A new “Business Agent for YouTube Ads” lets viewers chat with a conversational AI alongside video ads that use product feeds, giving them instant answers about advertised items without leaving the video. The update also introduces one-tap landing-page visits from image ads on YouTube Shorts and Gmail, streamlining the path from impression to site. Google says advertisers that add Gmail to their Demand Gen campaigns typically see image creatives generate about 40% more conversions while maintaining the same ROI. For physical retail networks and auto dealerships, new Affiliate Location Extensions in Google Maps put Promoted pins in front of users as they browse, search, and navigate, helping capture nearby demand.
Why it matters
These updates tighten the link between seeing an ad and taking action. Viewers can now ask a virtual agent about products without leaving YouTube, move from image ads in Shorts and Gmail to a landing page in one tap, and discover nearby retailers and dealerships directly on Maps. For advertisers, this combines conversational shopping, simpler mobile journeys and local discovery in one Demand Gen toolkit, aligned around more seamless experiences across Google’s properties.
