Google launches Playground, a browser-based AI game maker

The new tool lets adults in the US build games from prompts without coding, with higher usage limits for Google One subscribers.

Google has launched Playground, a browser-based AI game creation tool that lets people build and test games from prompts without needing to code, and it is available in the US today for users 18 and older. The service is free, while Google One subscribers get higher weekly token limits, and finished games can be shared by link or posted to a public gallery. Google says Playground uses its Gemini, Nano Banana, and Lyria models with a custom harness, and selected game types will support leaderboards and multiplayer. In the same announcement, Google and Unity introduced Unity Spark, a more advanced collaborative game-making product that will have a closed beta later this year and can publish games back to Playground.

Why it matters

This makes game creation more accessible to people who want to prototype ideas without learning to code. The higher limits for Google One subscribers also create a clearer split between casual use and heavier creation, while Unity Spark adds a more advanced path that can still publish back to Playground.
