Google tests Gemini’s ‘Call for Me’ to handle business calls for Pixel users

Google is testing a new Gemini capability called “Call for Me” that places phone calls to businesses on a user’s behalf and performs actions instead of just retrieving information. The experiment is first rolling out in the U.S. to Pixel 11 owners who both subscribe to Gemini and use the beta Google Phone app on Android. Unlike earlier Google call features, Gemini can now share user-approved personal details during a call so it can complete tasks such as reservations, rescheduling appointments, checking inventory, or placing holds. Calls are made from the user’s own number, with Gemini navigating phone trees and holds, while the user watches a live transcript and can jump in at any moment. Google frames this as a small-scale test to refine the system before wider deployment, citing the complexity of real-world phone conversations.
