IDCF Cloud ransomware attack disrupts services for 495 public and private users
IDC Frontier has cut access to IDCF Cloud management consoles while it investigates the breach and contains the disruption.
IDC Frontier says its IDCF Cloud service was hit by a ransomware attack on October 7 at 3:40 AM local time, and the company shut down affected network and system components in East Japan Region 1 to contain the intrusion. The disruption hit a data center cluster serving eastern Japan and affected 495 companies and local governments that use the cloud service. IDCF Cloud has also disabled customer access to management consoles across all regions while it checks security and investigates how the attackers got in. Separately, Nissui Logistics reported a system outage tied to suspected unauthorized access at a third-party data center, but the source says it is not clear whether that case is connected to the IDCF Cloud attack.
Why it matters
The outage reaches local governments and companies that rely on IDCF Cloud, and it has already forced the provider to restrict access across all regions while it checks security. That means affected users cannot manage their cloud environments normally until IDC Frontier finishes its investigation and restores service. A separate Nissui Logistics outage has also been reported, but its link to the attack is still unknown.
