Nvidia says October DLSS 5 update doubles model speed and cuts 4K VRAM use

The faster model is set to reach NBA 2K27 first, with Hogwarts Legacy due next month and support limited to RTX 50-series, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark systems.

Nvidia says the October DLSS 5 update makes its gaming model twice as fast as the current version, while also cutting the model’s size and VRAM use, which should help games run at higher frame rates or with heavier visual settings. The company says the model now has 118 million parameters, uses 20% less VRAM at 4K, and can reduce GPU overhead versus the September release by half at similar visual quality. Nvidia plans to ship the faster model first in NBA 2K27 on October 16, and says Hogwarts Legacy will get DLSS 5 next month. It also says DLSS 5 remains available on RTX 50-series GPUs, GeForce NOW, and RTX Spark systems. Separately, Nvidia is rolling out a faster Frame Generation Performance Mode for RTX 50-series, RTX 40-series GPUs, and RTX Spark laptops, with a new Preset C algorithm that it says improves speed on the RTX 5060 by 35%.

Why it matters

For players on supported hardware, Nvidia says the update should leave more room for higher frame rates or heavier visual settings without raising the model’s VRAM cost as much. The lower GPU overhead also means less performance is spent on the upscaling model itself, while the rollout shows where Nvidia is choosing to place the faster version first.
