ShinyHunters claims FBI breach, theft of agents’ and applicants’ data
Hackers say they took terabytes of FBI employee and applicant records via an Oracle PeopleSoft zero-day; the FBI is investigating the reported exposure of personal data.
ShinyHunters claims it broke into FBI systems via a zero‑day in Oracle PeopleSoft, moved into AWS GovCloud and other internal services, and stole 2–3TB of data on FBI employees and job applicants, including sensitive personal and some health information. The group defaced the FBIJobs.gov site with a seizure notice and messages asserting that all FBI employee and applicant data was compromised, and says it also accessed systems such as Criminal Justice, HR and Medlink. 404 Media and Reuters obtained a sample of about 5,000 purported employee records, and 404 Media reported validating parts of the data against public records, while the BBC says a smaller sample it saw appears genuine. The FBI has confirmed it is aware of claims about a compromise of the FBIJobs.gov portal and possible impact to employee PII, and says it is urgently investigating in coordination with third‑party providers, but has not confirmed the hackers’ broader claims or the alleged zero‑day. ShinyHunters frames the operation as retaliation for an FBI FLASH report issued in May 2026, giving the bureau one week to correct or remove what the group calls false allegations rather than demanding money, and says it is now using the same PeopleSoft flaw against other organizations, including Fortune 500 firms.
