YouTube leans into AI, personalization and chat at Made on YouTube 2026

Custom feeds, group chats and new AI tools reshape how viewers watch and creators produce on YouTube.

Updated 24 September 2026

At its 2026 Made on YouTube event, YouTube outlined a wave of updates aimed at making the platform more personalized and AI‑driven for both viewers and creators. Viewers in the US will soon be able to build “Custom Feeds” by describing the content they want, saving multiple curated tabs that appear on web, mobile, and TV. YouTube is also expanding interactive features by adding GIF replies in comments on standard videos and Shorts, plus rolling out group chats in its direct messaging product in selected countries. Beyond that, Google highlighted new creator and viewer tools including Ask YouTube for instant recommendations, AI-assisted Shorts editing, real-time auto-dubbing for livestreams, and new ways to discover music and podcasts. Collectively, these changes signal YouTube’s push to keep engagement high and give creators more AI-powered workflows and monetization hooks on the platform.

Why it matters

YouTube is tightening the loop between how people describe what they want to watch and what the platform serves them, while also giving creators more automated help. Custom Feeds and Ask YouTube make the homepage more responsive to a viewer’s tastes, and new music and podcast discovery tools broaden what gets surfaced. At the same time, AI-assisted editing, livestream auto-dubbing and expanded likeness detection reshape how creators make and manage content and how that content travels across languages and formats.
