Ahold Delhaize takes systems offline after cyberattack
Stores stayed open, but staff and customers faced outages across several banners while the company contained the incident.
Ahold Delhaize said it had to shut down some internal systems after a cybersecurity incident, a move that matters because the retailer runs thousands of stores and digital services across multiple markets. The company said its stores stayed open while teams worked to contain the issue, but employees and customers reported service problems in several regions. Stop & Shop staff could not access schedules and pay stubs, and users of Albert Heijn, Etos, Gall & Gall, and Delhaize ran into outages on websites, apps, and customer service tools. Food Lion workers were also told their store might not be able to shop, stage, or hand off orders. The event follows a separate November 2024 ransomware attack that exposed data on more than 2.2 million people.
Why it matters
For workers and shoppers, this means some internal tools and online services are unavailable even though stores are still trading. Stop & Shop staff lost access to schedules and pay stubs, several European banners saw service outages, and Food Lion employees were warned about order handling. The company is also dealing with the risk of disruption after a prior November 2024 ransomware attack that exposed data on more than 2.2 million people.
