Ambi raises $26 million for an AI assistant that listens in the background

The startup is shipping apps for Apple devices and aims to surface context during work, not just after meetings end.

Ambi, the new AI assistant startup from former Plaud executive Peter Mo, said it has raised $26 million and is rolling out apps for iPhone, Mac and Apple Watch that can keep listening in the background to surface suggestions and context during meetings. The company is trying to move beyond post-call note taking by using calendar, meeting, knowledge-base and web data to offer help while work is happening, and it says users can move tasks across devices. Ambi also plans a desktop app that will watch what users do and save important details in memory, plus its own hardware with a screen, speaker, camera and microphones. Privacy is a major issue for the product, so ambient capture is off by default, users can disable it, and Ambi says it does not keep recordings, though it has not said what encryption it uses. The company says it has more than 50 employees across San Francisco, Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, and it is hiring for go-to-market roles and speech-recognition engineering.

Why it matters

For people who spend much of the day in meetings and switching between devices, Ambi is pushing AI assistance earlier in the workflow. Its system is meant to use live context from calendars, meetings, knowledge bases and the web, while keeping ambient capture optional and off by default. That makes the product more useful during work, but also puts privacy and trust at the center of how it will be judged.
