Anthropic launches Claude Duet, an AI agent for professionals and small business owners

Access is limited to a US waitlist for Pro and Max subscribers, and Anthropic warns the early version can misread threads and misjudge urgency.

Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a new AI agent aimed at professionals and small business owners and offered as a research preview. It is built on Claude Opus 5.5 and can send a morning brief on key items across connected apps, monitor those apps through the day, and alert users only when something needs attention. Users can hand it tasks ranging from scheduling meetings to building dashboards, forecasts, prototypes and web apps, and it works through a virtual machine with a browser. Before consequential steps such as payments or deletions, it asks for approval, and a dedicated classifier blocks requests for the most sensitive data like card numbers. Anthropic describes it as an early version that may misread threads and is weaker at personal errands such as booking tickets, and access is via a waitlist for US Pro or Max subscribers.

Why it matters

The agent is positioned as a personal assistant that watches connected apps and interrupts only when something needs attention, which shifts routine monitoring of messages and tasks onto software. Its built-in approval step before payments or deletions and its block on the most sensitive data indicate that the people using it stay in control of consequential actions. Anthropic's own caveats about misreading threads and misjudging urgency mean users should still check what the agent flags before acting on it.
