Anthropic launches free AI security scans for open-source projects
Open-source maintainers can now opt into periodic scans that may surface issues earlier, though the reports are fully model-generated and may include errors.
Anthropic has introduced OSS Scanner, a free opt-in security scanning service for open-source projects that uses its strongest models to generate vulnerability reports. The company says the scans run periodically at no cost, which could help projects spot issues earlier. It also says the reports are produced entirely by models, with no human review or triage, so some findings may be wrong or invalid. Anthropic says the system includes Claude Mythos among the models used to produce the reports.
Why it matters
For maintainers, the change is that security checks can now run automatically without paying for the service. That may help surface possible vulnerabilities sooner, but the lack of human review means the results still need careful checking before they are acted on.
