Apple adds AI assistant to Pages, Keynote and Numbers in iOS 27 and macOS 27 beta

Third-party AI agents will also be able to connect to the apps through Model Context Protocol support on macOS 27 or later.

Apple is adding an AI assistant to Pages, Keynote and Numbers, built on models from Apple and OpenAI, that can read a document's context and carry out tasks such as designing, animating and refining slides. In Pages it can draft and rework written content, and in Numbers it can run calculations, suggest chart types and build custom tables. Keynote, Pages and Numbers also gain Model Context Protocol support on macOS 27 or later, which lets third-party AI agents connect to the apps. The assistant is rolling out in beta to Apple Intelligence-compatible devices running iOS 27, iPadOS 27 or macOS 27 and later. Apple is also shipping related creative-app updates, including a Generate Fill feature in Pixelmator Pro, an AI assistant and Liquid Glass redesign in Logic Pro, and stock content and MotionVFX templates in Final Cut Pro, with the Creator's Studio updates free to existing subscribers in November.

Why it matters

The change puts an AI assistant built on Apple and OpenAI models directly inside Apple's everyday document, presentation and spreadsheet apps, starting in beta on Apple Intelligence-compatible devices. For people who make slides, documents and spreadsheets, the assistant is meant to handle design, drafting and calculation tasks within the app they already use. Model Context Protocol support also means that outside AI agents, not only Apple's own assistant, can work with the content inside these apps on macOS 27 or later. Apple's related creative-app updates, which are free to existing Creator's Studio subscribers in November, extend the same push across its creative tools.
