Apple tightens App Store rules against nudify AI apps

Developers now face clearer requirements to stop nonconsensual sexual images or risk removal from the App Store.

Apple has tightened App Store policy to make explicit that apps used to create nonconsensual intimate images, including “nudify” tools, are not allowed. The update matters for developers because Apple now says app makers must actively stop and remove such content, and failure to do so can lead to removal from the store. Apple also clarified that apps which change into “nudification” tools after approval can be treated as bait-and-switch violations. The revised rules further say apps tied to child exploitation or human trafficking will be removed and blocked from alternative distribution.

Why it matters

The update gives Apple a clearer basis to act against apps that generate intimate images without consent, including ones that change behavior after approval. For developers, the immediate change is that moderation obligations are stricter and failures can now lead to removal, not just a policy warning. Apple also says apps linked to child exploitation or human trafficking can be removed and kept out of alternative distribution.
