Audible adds AI story interactions to its Dracula adaptation
The beta turns listening into a spoken back-and-forth, with more titles and in-app guides to follow later this fall.
Audible is introducing a new generative-AI feature called Interactive Stories, starting with an experience tied to its upcoming Audible Original adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula. The first interaction centers on Dracula’s servant Renfield, who assigns listeners a role, objective and stakes, and then responds to their spoken input in real time. Audible plans to launch Interactive Stories later this fall as a beta, and has also revealed a second experience set in the universe of the Exoplanet original audio novel, created in collaboration with author Benjamin Percy and due November 5. Alongside the Dracula release, Audible is rolling out a Character Guide that shows who is speaking in real time in the app and offers non-spoiler character cards, a feature already enabled for its 1984 adaptation and coming to Dracula and Exoplanet. The company is also preparing a Visual Explorer tool that will surface contextual images such as maps at key points in an audiobook, with a beta debut planned for The Cultural Tutor's Grand Tour: The Story of Europe in Six Cities.
Why it matters
This moves Audible beyond passive narration for some titles and gives listeners a way to take part in the story rather than only hear it. The company is pairing that with tools that make it easier to follow who is speaking and to see supporting context while an audiobook plays, which could change how complex audio stories are presented in the app.
