Chainalysis Breach Exposes User Credentials and Forces Service Shutdowns
Customers of the blockchain analytics firm must register trusted IP addresses and reset passwords and API keys before transactions can be registered again.
Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis now says an attack on its systems exposed names, usernames, password hashes and live tokens belonging to every one of its users, though it has found no sign that investigative data or attribution records were touched. In response it has pulled offline the login portal, its Reactor and Data Solutions services, the Know Your Transaction interface and API, and its address screening products, and it has locked affected accounts. Customers must send trusted IP addresses to support so they can be allowlisted, after which they will have to reset passwords and rotate API keys before registering transactions again. The company describes the intrusion as an agentic, AI-assisted attack and says it resembles incidents hitting several other tech platforms recently, though the attacker's identity remains unknown.
Why it matters
Every Chainalysis user's name, username, password hash and live tokens were exposed, so anyone relying on the company's transaction registration and screening services is locked out until they complete the reset process. The company says it has found no sign that investigative data or attribution records were touched, which limits the damage to account access. The attacker is still unidentified, and Chainalysis describes the intrusion as resembling attacks on several other tech platforms in recent weeks, suggesting the problem is not confined to one firm.
