CircleCI ships Machine Runner Orchestrator 1.0.0
The self-hosted runner tool is now generally available at no extra cost, but teams upgrading from the preview must take runners offline first.
CircleCI has generally released Machine Runner Orchestrator 1.0.0, a tool that autos-scales self-hosted machine runner VMs to match CI demand instead of leaving teams to preprovision for peak load. The new version folds the earlier Runner Provisioner preview into a single deployment that can handle CPU, GPU, and ARM workloads, and it works with GKE, AKS, EKS, and KubeVirt. CircleCI says the feature is included with self-hosted runners across its plans at no extra charge. Upgrading from the preview is not seamless: CircleCI renamed the product, changed the Helm chart and repositories, and requires users to uninstall the old deployment before installing 1.0.0, leaving runners offline during the cutover. The release also patches two high-severity Go gRPC vulnerabilities, CVE-2026-84304 and CVE-2026-84445.
Why it matters
For teams running CI on their own machines, the release turns a preview into a supported path for scaling runner capacity across CPU, GPU and ARM workloads. It also means migration needs planning: CircleCI requires removing the old deployment before installing 1.0.0, so jobs will stop during the cutover, and the update includes fixes for two high-severity Go gRPC vulnerabilities.
