Figma adds tools to control how agents handle design work

The new features give teams more control over AI-assisted design and prototyping while widening access to code and canvas agents.

Figma is adding tools meant to make AI-driven design and prototype work more controllable for teams that need brand and system rules to hold up. At its first Config event in India, the company introduced Figma Specs, a Markdown editor that can define design language and pull in canvas elements, FigJam diagrams, code layers, design libraries, code libraries, and guidelines. It also moved code layers into public beta and said users can ask the agent to convert designs to code or edit code inside a prototype, while noting that its canvas agent had been broadened to more users in the past week. Figma said its MCP now supports more than 20 tools, including Open Code, Dia, Grok Bot, and Sarvam, and that it is integrating Payload into Figma Make after acquiring the open-source headless CMS last year. The company also said Payload downloads have risen sixfold over the past 12 months and that Figma works with 40% of India’s top 100 Bombay Stock Exchange-listed companies.

Why it matters

For teams that need brand and system rules to stay consistent, Figma is pushing its agents toward more structured workflows rather than loose generation. The changes also widen where AI can act, from design-to-code tasks in prototypes to a larger set of connected tools and customers, which makes the platform more useful for controlled production work.
