Google offers European researchers access to frontier AI models and compute credits

The package is meant to help selected researchers do scientific work faster by easing access to models and compute.

Google is giving up to 200 European researchers direct access to its frontier AI models, along with $3 million in compute credits, in a move aimed at speeding scientific work across Europe. The package includes AlphaFold 3, WeatherNext, AlphaGenome, AlphaEvolve, and AlphaEarth Foundations. Google says the effort is tied to the EU’s AI for Science work and will be distributed through the RAISE initiative to help close compute shortfalls researchers face. The company says the goal is to help teams handle hard problems faster, including weather prediction and molecular mapping.

Why it matters

For researchers across Europe, the change is less about a new product than about access to more capability. Google is tying the offer to EU AI for Science work through RAISE, which means the support is aimed at scientific teams that need more compute and model access to work on difficult problems such as weather prediction and molecular mapping.
