MetaMask says infrastructure incident is affecting part of its systems
The company says user wallets are not in immediate danger as it removes affected validators from its staking setup.
MetaMask said it is dealing with an ongoing infrastructure security incident that affects part of its own infrastructure, while stressing that there is no immediate threat to user wallets. In response, it is taking affected validators out of its non-custodial staking operations with outside help from security partners and advisors. Lido Finance separately said MetaMask Staking has started exiting Ethereum validators in the Lido protocol to reduce the risk of network penalties, which means some rewards may be lost and some downtime penalties could follow. Lido said the relevant validators have already begun the exit process and should be fully exited, though not fully withdrawn, by October 7, 2026.
Why it matters
For people using MetaMask Staking, the main change is that validators tied to the incident are being taken out early to limit further risk. Lido says that reduces the chance of larger network penalties, but it can also mean some rewards are missed and some downtime penalties still happen while the exit runs through to October 7, 2026.
