Samsung profit set for record as AI chip demand lifts memory sales

The company’s latest forecast points to another record quarter, underlining how AI data-centre demand is feeding through the chip supply chain.

Samsung says its quarterly operating profit is on track to jump to a record 107.4tn won for the three months ending in September, a nine-fold increase from a year earlier, as AI data-centre demand drives memory-chip sales. The company’s latest profit preview points to a fourth straight quarter of record earnings, which matters for anyone tracking the AI supply chain because Samsung is one of the biggest suppliers of the chips needed by AI builders such as Nvidia. Samsung is also expected to benefit from its folding phones launched in August. The full third-quarter results are due at the end of October.

Why it matters

For companies and investors watching the AI hardware market, Samsung’s outlook shows that demand for memory chips is still strong enough to push earnings higher at one of the sector’s biggest suppliers. That makes the company’s late-October results a closely watched signal for how far AI-related chip buying is carrying the wider supply chain.
