SpaceX adds speed limits to Starlink-linked military terminals used by Ukraine

The change has already interrupted drone missions and made some aircraft harder to control at speed.

Ukraine says SpaceX imposed new speed-based limits on Starlink-linked military terminals used by its drone units, and the change disrupted several frontline missions. Ukrainian officials say the terminals started dropping service above about 160 km/h, with one unit reporting brief outages that made aircraft harder to control and forced mission cancellations. Serhiy Beskrestnov said SpaceX gave no advance notice, and Ukrainian defense sources said the restriction is now affecting logistics as well as drone operations. The timing has raised suspicion in Kyiv because it comes as Washington is pressing Ukraine to curb long-range drone strikes on Russian energy infrastructure.

Why it matters

For Ukraine’s drone units, the issue is no longer just access to Starlink-linked terminals but whether they keep working in motion during missions. That matters because brief dropouts and canceled sorties can force crews to adjust or abandon flights already under way, affecting both combat use and logistics. The lack of advance notice also leaves operators with less time to plan around the new limit.
