XMG hikes laptop prices as DDR5 SO-DIMM costs jump sixfold
Gaming and professional laptop buyers face higher prices as XMG passes on steep DDR5 and component cost increases.
XMG says DDR5 SO-DIMM prices have reached six times their July 2025 level and expects RAM shortages to continue through 2027 and beyond. It is increasing prices on most gaming laptop models by $113 (€100) or $228 (€200), with one professional laptop rising by $342 (€300). XMG also reports rising costs for SSDs, PCBs, electronic components, CPUs, graphics cards and video memory. The company attributes added freight and cargo-insurance costs to conflict in the Middle East and says it will lower retail prices if its input costs fall. Its outlook differs from Asus CEO Jason Chen’s forecast that component prices will begin reversing in the latter half of 2027.
