XREAL and Google launch AURA, wired XR glasses running Android XR

Launch pricing starts at USD 1,099 through year end, with orders open now in the U.S., Canada and Korea.

Google and XREAL have released AURA, a pair of wired XR glasses running Android XR that are said to be the first of their kind. The lenses are see-through and project apps into the field of view across a 70-degree range, while the glasses stay under 95 grams because the processing sits in a cable-connected puck that houses the battery and Qualcomm's Snapdragon Reality Elite chip. Gemini can read what the wearer sees across apps and the real world, and can now point out items to focus on. Users can run several apps at once, pair a keyboard and mouse, or mirror a laptop screen over USB-C with no extra software. Launch pricing starts at USD 1,099 through year end, with orders open today in the U.S., Canada and Korea, and Japan from November 2.

Why it matters

AURA shifts some of the heavy processing out of the frame and into a cable-connected puck, which keeps the glasses under 95 grams. Wearers can run several apps at once, mirror a laptop screen over USB-C without extra software, and ask Gemini to point out what to focus on. For people who follow the wearable market, it is a concrete attempt to make see-through glasses a working display rather than a novelty, and the early price and regional rollout show where the product is aimed first.
