Buildkite Adds Pipeline-Scoped Secrets and New MCP Tools for CI
Teams can now limit pipeline credentials by branch, queue, build source or creator, and let AI agents validate and compare builds.
Buildkite has added pipeline-scoped secrets, new MCP tools for validating pipelines, comparing builds, and repairing missing GitHub webhooks, plus Linux arm64 support in its GitHub Actions compatibility layer. The new secrets view keeps pipeline-specific credentials under Pipeline settings and can narrow access by branch, queue, build source, or build creator. Its MCP server now offers validate_pipeline to check YAML against Buildkite's schema without uploading it or starting a build, compare_builds to highlight regressions and reuse log snippets, and create_pipeline_webhook to restore a missing webhook. Buildkite also updated its CLI and agent releases with secret-migration support, better redaction, more OpenTelemetry data in Agent v4.1.0, and support for cache timing and size telemetry.
Why it matters
For people who follow CI tooling, the change is that credentials used by a single pipeline can now be restricted to specific branches, queues, build sources or creators rather than being broadly available. The new MCP tools let automated agents check pipeline YAML against the schema without starting a build, compare builds for regressions, and restore a missing GitHub webhook. Together these changes shift more of the routine checking and repair work in CI toward tools that run without a manual build.
