Claude can now read your bank and card data in a US beta, without seeing your passwords

The read-only access means users get spending analysis from an AI without granting it any power to move money.

Anthropic has added a Personal Finance feature to Claude that links to users' bank and card accounts through Plaid, so the chatbot never sees banking passwords. Claude gets read-only access to account names, types, balances, credit limits and up to two years of transactions, and it cannot move, manage or invest money. Users can ask it to break down spending by category, flag unusual fees or rising bills, track upcoming payments and chart their finances. The beta is rolling out to Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers in the United States, and OpenAI introduced a comparable feature for ChatGPT in May. Anthropic says it is still exploring how Claude could work alongside licensed financial professionals and has invited banks and wealth managers to weigh in.

Why it matters

For paying subscribers in the United States, Claude becomes a tool that reads their accounts and answers questions about them, while the banking relationship itself stays untouched. Users keep control because Claude cannot move, manage or invest money, and their finance chats are kept out of model training and shared memory. The move also puts Anthropic in the same space as OpenAI, which added a comparable feature to ChatGPT in May, and Anthropic is asking banks and wealth managers how such assistants should sit alongside licensed professionals.
