Epic previews Linux launcher as it works toward Fortnite on Linux
Epic has started the technical path to a Linux version of Fortnite, but it still has no release date.
Epic has released a preview of a rebuilt Epic Games Launcher for Windows, Mac, and Linux, and says the Linux build will be the path to bringing Fortnite to Linux. The company says the launcher is faster and more responsive, and that it used AI tools during development while still keeping engineers in control of the code review and process. Epic is also rebuilding Easy Anti-Cheat as EAC Linux v2, starting with a Fortnite pilot, because anti-cheat support has been the main blocker to a Linux version. There is no launch date yet for Fortnite on Linux, and Epic says it is also talking with Valve about SteamOS and future Steam Deck support, though it does not plan to put Fortnite on Steam.
Why it matters
For Linux players, this moves Fortnite from a stated intention to a concrete development track, with launcher work and anti-cheat rebuilds underway. The remaining gap is timing: Epic says there is no timeline yet, so the practical change is that Linux support is now being built rather than only discussed, while SteamOS and Steam Deck support are still being explored separately.
