Google launches Gemini 4 Argon as its most advanced model
Google says the model is first reaching Fairwind Program members after cutting some costs and adding security automation.
Google has introduced Gemini 4 Argon, a new flagship model aimed at hard reasoning work such as coding, finance, software engineering, creative writing and cybersecurity, and it is already being used internally for research and infrastructure tasks. The company says Argon is intended to sit in the same frontier tier as OpenAI and Anthropic models, while Artificial Analysis says it matches GPT-6 Astra on its Intelligence Index at 60% of the cost per task and has a lower hallucination rate than the leading competitors named in the report. Google says the model can process up to 1 million output tokens, has been used to help with codebase migrations and memory optimization, and has freed up 300 TiB of memory across its data centers. The launch also highlights security features, including resistance to prompt injection and tooling that can autonomously find, validate and patch critical vulnerabilities, and Google says Argon is rolling out first to its Fairwind Program before reaching paid API users and Google AI Ultra subscribers.
Why it matters
Argon gives selected users access to Google’s latest top-tier model before a wider rollout, and the pricing and cost claim set a clearer benchmark for what this class of model costs to use. The security tooling and infrastructure gains also show Google is positioning the model for high-stakes work where speed, reliability and operational efficiency matter.
