Google opens preview of Connected Apps Platform for Gemini and Search

Third-party apps can now complete tasks inside Gemini and Search, but access is limited to a phased U.S. beta with no wider date set.

Google has opened a preview of its Connected Apps Platform, which lets third-party developers place their apps inside Gemini and Google Search so users can carry out tasks without leaving the chat or search flow. Developers connect through a cloud-hosted MCP server or Android MCP using AppFunctions, then register, test and submit the app in the Google Connected Console, choosing whether it appears in Search, Gemini, or both. After launch they can see traffic, latency and error rates while keeping control of verified logos and authenticated accounts. More than 50 apps already run in Gemini, including integrations with Adobe, Experian, Localiza and Peloton, and those are slated to reach Search in the coming weeks. Calm is also set to launch on both surfaces, while access stays limited to a phased U.S. beta for now, with no broader release date given.

Why it matters

For users, the change is that tasks such as booking or checking an account can happen inside Gemini or Search rather than in a separate app or website. Developers gain a route into both surfaces from one submission, and Google keeps control of verified logos and authenticated accounts. With more than 50 apps already live in Gemini and several slated for Search, the platform is moving from test to launch. Its reach beyond the U.S. beta is still unknown, so the effect for most people is not yet settled.
