Google starts rolling out Gmail Live AI search for inboxes

The new search tool can pull details from emails directly, and the same rollout adds voice-based features for Docs and Keep.

Google has started rolling out Gmail Live, an AI-powered conversational search feature that lets subscribers ask questions about their inbox instead of manually hunting through threads. The feature is now out of beta, and Google says it can answer queries such as flight gate numbers or school updates by scanning email content. Similar voice-driven tools are also launching for Keep and Docs, where Keep Live turns spoken ideas into organized notes and Docs Live can draft documents from information pulled across Gmail, Drive, Chat and the web. The rollout this week is limited to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers for Gmail and Keep, while Docs Live is restricted to Pro and Ultra, and Google says the tools are also coming to Workspace business customers soon.

Why it matters

For people who rely on Gmail for travel, school and work updates, the change is that they can ask for a detail instead of digging through threads. It also puts Google’s inbox, notes and document tools on the same AI rollout path, with Docs Live kept to higher-tier plans and the rest headed to Workspace business customers.
