HackerRank makes its AI interviewer generally available

Chakra moves from coding tests to fuller hiring conversations, with HackerRank saying it can compress several interview stages into one.

HackerRank has made Chakra, its AI interviewing agent, generally available after roughly six months in beta, turning a product used for coding assessments into a tool meant to run a fuller hiring conversation. The system, which has already handled more than 500,000 interviews in testing with companies including Snowflake, Snorkel, and Capgemini, is designed to watch how candidates solve problems in a real codebase and to probe their reasoning, judgment, and AI fluency. HackerRank says Chakra can collapse a process that used to span recruiter screening, a take-home task, and an engineer follow-up into one interview, while the final hiring call still stays with people. The company also says suspicious-activity flags were 70% to 80% lower in Chakra sessions than in comparable traditional assessments, though that varied by geography and seniority, and it is building the product to fit hiring rules such as New York City’s automated-tool requirements.

Why it matters

For employers, Chakra shifts AI from a narrow assessment step into part of the live interview itself, which changes how much of the hiring process can be condensed before a human makes the final call. The lower suspicious-activity flags also suggest a different assessment experience from traditional tests, while rules such as New York City’s add disclosure and audit requirements to automated hiring tools.
