Laplace Intelligence brings automated red-teaming to robots and self-driving systems

The startup says customers are already paying for simulation-based testing meant to surface failures before robots and autonomous systems go live.

Laplace Intelligence is pitching automated red-teaming for robots and self-driving systems, using AI agents inside high-fidelity simulations to find failure cases before deployment. The Ann Arbor startup was founded a year ago by Howie Sun and Henry Liu out of the University of Michigan, and Sun says the company has already started generating revenue and a modest profit. Its customers and pilots include Bot Auto, a major Japanese automaker, Nvidia, T-Mobile, and a San Jose smart-city project, while the company is also exploring humanoid-robot warehouse work. Laplace is one of 20 startups in Startup Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco, where it will present Tuesday afternoon, October 13, and it is using the event to raise money and scale against rivals such as Applied Intuition.

Why it matters

This moves safety testing earlier in the development process for robotics and physical AI teams, where missed failure cases can become costly after deployment. With paying customers and pilots already in place, Laplace is showing that automated red-teaming is becoming a practical step in how these systems are evaluated before they reach the real world.
