Meta unveils lightweight VR glasses powered by wired compute puck

The glasses aim at entertainment-focused VR with cinema-style media and gesture-driven games.

Meta has unveiled Meta VR Glasses, a 100g VR device in a glasses form factor powered by a wired “computing puck” instead of a conventional head-mounted headset. The puck includes a Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, 12GB RAM, 128GB storage and a battery rated for up to three hours of media playback. The glasses feature a 5K MicroOLED “Infinite Display” at 2412 x 2288 pixels per eye, up to 120Hz refresh, and color passthrough via front-facing cameras, with interaction driven by eye tracking and hand-gesture input. At launch, they will support the full Quest app catalog, a new hands-first Beat Saber: Flux mode, more than 75 games tuned for gesture control, and media experiences such as VR enhanced Avengers: Endgame plus VR180 NBA Finals content. Meta VR Glasses are priced at $1,299.99, scheduled to go on sale in spring 2027, positioning them between Quest 3 and Apple’s Vision Pro in the high-end consumer XR market.

Why it matters

Meta is shifting high-end VR toward a lighter, glasses-style device that leans on a wired computing puck and camera-based input instead of a bulky headset and hand controllers. That makes long media sessions and casual use more plausible, while keeping support for cinematic experiences like Avengers: Endgame, NBA Finals clips and other big-budget titles, plus a launch lineup of gesture-first games including a new Beat Saber mode and a Phoenix Wright VR release planned for 2027.
