Norway moves to restrict AI glasses in parks, schools and beaches
The proposal would be the first major national temporary ban on the devices and could lead to lasting rules.
Norway is moving to restrict AI glasses in certain public settings, making it the first major country to propose a temporary ban on the devices amid privacy concerns. The center-left government said it will soon bring a bill to parliament covering places such as parks, beaches, schools, and kindergartens. It also plans to create an expert group to recommend permanent national rules. Digitalization minister Torgeir Micaelsen said the goal is to avoid people being captured on camera or audio without knowing it and to buy time for a broader policy debate.
Why it matters
If the bill passes, people using AI glasses would face limits in places where others may be recorded without knowing it. The temporary step would also give Norway time to assess the issue and build permanent national rules, which could shape how similar devices are treated in public spaces.
