Restate raises $20 million as AI agent demand lifts workflow infrastructure
The Series A gives Restate more room to sell durable workflow tools to customers building AI agent systems.
Restate has raised a $20 million Series A to push its durable workflow infrastructure into the growing market for AI agent systems. The Berlin startup, founded in 2022 by Stephen Ewen and former Data Artisans and Ververica colleagues Igal Shilman and Till Rohrmann, says its execution engine is designed to keep multi-step work resilient through crashes and network problems. Ewen says recent AI-agent demand helped drive multiple six- and seven-figure customer deals, and the company already counts Replit and some Fortune 500 financial customers among its users. The round was led by Singular, with Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures participating, and Restate plans to use the money to hire go-to-market staff, add engineers, and expand its San Francisco Bay Area office. The funding also positions Restate to compete more directly with Temporal, which recently disclosed a much larger Series E at a $12.55 billion valuation.
Why it matters
For companies running multi-step AI work, Restate’s raise points to stronger demand for infrastructure that can survive crashes and network problems. The company says that demand is already showing up in customer deals and users, and the new funding should help it reach more buyers while it competes with a much larger rival.
