Tesla renames Full Self-Driving to Assisted Driving on some European sites
German officials had said the old name could suggest unsupervised driving, and regulators in other countries are still reviewing it.
Tesla has renamed its Full Self-Driving feature to Assisted Driving on some European websites after regulators said the old label could mislead drivers into thinking it offered unsupervised automation. The change follows talks with Germany, where Transport Minister Steffen Bilger said he discussed the issue with Tesla in September and would now push for faster approval across Europe. Germany’s transport ministry said the system only assists with tasks such as accelerating and braking, not full driving. Reuters says the feature is already available in several European countries, and authorities in Sweden and Italy are still reviewing whether the original name could confuse consumers.
Why it matters
The new label makes the limits of the system more explicit for drivers in Europe, where it is already in use in several countries. It also shows that approval and naming are still being worked through country by country, with Swedish and Italian authorities still examining whether the old term could mislead consumers.
