Cisco adds Dialog agent framework to Webex
The update lets Webex teams bring AI agents into meetings and workflows, with Cisco also tying in Splunk for safety controls.
Cisco is adding a new agentic layer called Dialog to Webex so enterprise teams can route customer work, internal tasks, and cross-application actions through AI agents. The system is meant to keep acting after a conversation ends, coordinate between people, agents, and backend systems, and let workers invite agents into spaces, meetings, and calls. Cisco also says Dialog will speed onboarding by letting agents learn from handbooks, knowledge bases, and operating procedures, while a Splunk partnership is supposed to add safety controls. The update includes an example of an agent gathering presentation stats and changing a PowerPoint during a live meeting, but the broader challenge is that recent research still shows AI agents failing multi-step office work at high rates.
Why it matters
For companies using Webex, the change makes AI agents part of ongoing work rather than a one-off chat response. It also gives teams a way to involve agents in spaces, meetings and calls while Cisco links the rollout to safety controls and faster onboarding from company materials. That means the platform is moving toward coordinated task handling across people, agents and business systems, not just message generation.
