Figma expands MCP partners while Dylan Field says the protocol still needs work

The company is adding more MCP support, but its co-founder says the standard still has limits and wider access can increase abuse risk.

Figma is widening its MCP support even as co-founder Dylan Field says the standard still has serious shortcomings for some use cases. At its first Config conference in India, the company said it was adding 20 MCP partners, including Amp, ClickUp, Dia, Junie by JetBrains, Linear, Meta Muse, Mistral, Notion, OpenCode, and Sarvam Agents. Field said he likes the push toward an open ecosystem, but argued MCP is biased toward frontier labs and still needs a lot of work. He also said Figma’s leadership is wary of exposing too much through MCP because broader access raises the risk of abuse.

Why it matters

For people using Figma’s ecosystem, the message is that the company wants broader MCP connectivity without treating the protocol as finished. Field’s comments suggest support will keep expanding, but with caution about how much access Figma exposes through it, which could shape what integrations are allowed and how open they become.
