Apple Starts Rolling Out Creator Studio Updates With Logic Pro 13.0

The sound library now sits in one browser, and an iPad can serve as a controller for Logic Pro on a Mac.

Apple has begun pushing out updates to its Creator Studio apps, announced last month, starting with Logic Pro for Mac in both its Creator Studio and standalone editions, with Pixelmator Pro also expected to receive its update the same day. The rest of the suite is due to follow across November. Logic Pro 13.0 reworks the sound library into a single browser that indexes loops, one-shots, instrument and effect patches and plug-in presets, auto-tags custom or third-party samples, and pulls in Splice sounds alongside them. The release also adds a stem splitter that separates the drum stem into kick, snare, hi-hat, toms, cymbals and other percussion, a new translucent interface style, and an iPad Sidecar mode that acts as a multi-touch controller. A separate note for the Creator Studio edition describes an AI-driven assistant that builds beats from plain-language requests.

Why it matters

Music producers using Logic Pro on Mac get a single place to find loops, one-shots, instrument and effect patches, and plug-in presets, including Splice sounds and their own samples, which are tagged automatically. The stem splitter can now break a drum stem into individual percussion parts, and iPad Sidecar lets a tablet act as a multi-touch controller. Subscribers to the Creator Studio edition also get an AI assistant that builds beats from plain-language requests. Pixelmator Pro is expected the same day, and the rest of the suite follows through November, so users of those apps will see their updates over the coming weeks.
