Microsoft’s October 2026 Patch Tuesday fixes 1,411 flaws and ends support for some Windows editions
The update also closes three zero-days and marks the last security update for Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016.
Microsoft’s October 2026 Patch Tuesday fixes a record 1,411 vulnerabilities, including one actively exploited zero-day and two publicly disclosed zero-days, and also marks end of support for Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro plus Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016. The patch batch contains 70 Critical issues, with 57 remote code execution bugs, and Microsoft says 348 additional flaws fixed earlier in the month are not part of this Patch Tuesday total. One exploited flaw let attackers bypass the Mark of the Web security feature in Windows Shell, while the two disclosed issues affect .NET Framework and MessagePack-CSharp. Microsoft says the .NET Framework issue could let an authenticated attacker get around WDAC and execute code inside a protected process, and it credits James Forshaw of Google Project Zero for finding it. Microsoft also warned that Windows 11 23H2 Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions will stop getting security updates next month unless they are upgraded.
Why it matters
For people running those Windows editions, this update is the final security fix from Microsoft, so staying protected now depends on moving to a supported release. The package also shows how wide the month’s exposure was, with 70 Critical issues, 57 remote code execution bugs, and a .NET Framework flaw that could let an authenticated attacker bypass WDAC and run code in a protected process.
