Shopify opens its catalog to any AI agent
Shoppers can now let more AI agents browse and buy from Shopify’s catalog, with checkout kept inside Shop and each purchase requiring approval.
Shopify is widening its agentic checkout system so any AI agent can shop from its catalog, not just the ones tied to a specific partner integration. The company says shoppers can connect an agent through Shop, then approve purchases inside the chat flow using Shop Pay, with orders sent back into the Shop app. Shopify says the catalog exposure covers more than a billion listings, including items from outside Shopify storefronts. It is positioning the feature as a rule-based personal shopper, with controls such as budget limits and fast-shipping preferences.
Why it matters
This widens Shopify’s reach beyond partner-specific integrations and makes its catalog usable by a much larger set of agent tools. For shoppers, the change is not just discovery: they can connect an agent to Shop, keep payment and approval inside the chat flow, and send the order back into the app. The result is a more controlled way to let software act on a buying request across a catalog that now spans more than a billion listings.
