Vercel says Jev was its fastest-adopted AI model in the first two weeks
Vercel says early uptake of Jev was strong enough that it quickly became a widely used option among paid teams.
Vercel says Jev became its fastest-adopted AI model in the first two weeks after launch, a sign that developer interest in the decision model quickly turned into real usage. According to Vercel’s gateway data, 35% of paid teams were using Jev within two weeks of its September 15 limited release, putting it well ahead of Sonnet 5.5 in reach. Jev’s appeal is that it only chooses among a small set of preset outputs, which makes it cheaper and faster for bulk classification jobs than larger models. Vercel also said it used Jev itself to replace GPT-6 Luna for classifying harmful commands. The same data showed open source models now make up more than 70% of tokens processed through Vercel’s gateway and nearly 25% of total spend, while frontier-lab spending has risen tenfold.
Why it matters
The figures suggest developers are already shifting some everyday model use toward open source systems, while frontier lab spend is rising fast at the same time. That split matters because it shows adoption and spending are moving in different directions, which may affect how teams choose models and where Vercel sees demand.
